settle in for a few minutes. You don't want to gloss over anything
below. It is that important to the success of your Window Cleaning
Business.
Ya ready? Then let's get

There are a whole lot of
window cleaners out there following the herd doing what all the other
window cleaners are doing. They may be hard working folks
who have the best of intentions but are only working the traditional
marketing angle-Pop out a few flyers, put an ad in the yellow pages, mail
out some postcards, distribute some door hangers, and the list goes on.
Traditional marketing is absolutely important. I've mailed out
over 56,000 postcards in my window washing business bringing my message to
prospects, getting the phone to ring, and bringing in jobs. And I had the
usual yellow page ad, inserted dozens of newsletter ads, probably
distributed close to 100,000 flyers if not more, plus implemented countless other traditional
marketing tactics.
Did they work? Absolutely.
Calls were coming in daily. But what would you say if I
told you that there was one marketing method that put all the others
combined to shame? One method that can take your window
cleaning business from "average" into a level of profitability like
you've never seen before.
Well...there is.
It's called
Working the Referrals!
This was the method that
created a flood of quality (forget dealing with the nitpickers
and the price shoppers of the world) jobs and incredible profits for my
business. And it can do the same for you!
Let's back up for a minute...
The vast majority of window
cleaners
out there are always going after new customers. And this is great.
But what about the goldmine of customers you already have? It's
absolutely essential that you work your customer relationships to the max
because you will not only generate additional business and jobs from those
customers, but the referrals they give you regularly is what will put your
business on the map.
One thing you need to
understand is that customers are
not automatically going to refer their friends, family, and neighbors to
you just because you cleaned their windows and did a good job. Some will
of course. Most won't. And even if they do, they might send you one
referral or maybe 2 referrals.
You
want a constant stream of referrals from every customer!
So...what is the best way to stay in front of your customers and "work
the referrals"?
Send 'em a series of
greeting cards or postcards! That's all there is to it. Simple
and easy to do. But...very few window cleaners do DO it! So if you follow
what I talk about below, you'll be way ahead of your competition.
It's truly amazing that a
little 'ole greeting card can make that much of a difference. But it does.
There's a reason why the greeting card industry is a multibillion
dollar per year industry. People love to receive greeting cards.
Here's an example of one of my
messages in my "Summertime" card:
Hi John and Judy:
Just a quick note from your
friendly neighborhood
window cleaner hoping that
you are having a fine
summer so far.
Thanks to all our wonderful
customers such as
yourselves, our business
continues to grow in
leaps and bounds due to the
many referrals we
receive, so thank you for
spreading the word!
It's much appreciated.
We'll see you at your next

Obviously the message would change slightly if it was sent around a
holiday but you get the idea. Short, simple, and very effective.
Did you notice above how I took
care of two birds with one stone? I planted the seed that I'm coming back
again for a repeat window cleaning service. And I'm "working the
referrals". I want to get my customers thinking of who they might know in
their sphere of influence (friends, family, neighbors) who could benefit from a professional window
cleaning.
Doing the above on a consistent
basis works! It'll not only generate immediate phone calls for your window
cleaning services, but your customers
will send you a regular stream of referrals which is what it's all about.
You'll literally have your own army of "referral senders" spreading
the word for you and sending you customers with checkbook in hand ready
for you to clean their windows.
But do you wanna know what the best
part is? I hinted at it in the above paragraph. Referrals are pretty much guaranteed! Understand that referrals
are already sold on your window cleaning service because a
satisfied customer recommended them to you. So it's just a matter of
presenting your estimate/pricing and walking away with the job. Easy as
pie!
I closed almost 100% of the
referrals I received. Almost 100%! Remember they are being sent to
you by a satisfied customer. They're already sold on you and your service.
Who would you rather deal with, a
yellow page caller who may have called 4 other window cleaning
businesses looking for the best price? Or a person already completely sold
on your service who was told to call you by a satisfied customer? I'll
take option 2 any day of the week.
So it makes sense to go after
referrals in a big way, right?
The problem though is "time".
I bought my greeting cards in bulk, and then my wife and I would write,
sign, seal, stamp, and send each card. Not the best use of our time.
